I love this post. I've read 5 of these already (plus Watership Down). Obviously, Ender's Game can be likened to a war with an "misunderstood" enemy. A metaphor, if you will.

If one wants to read about the religious side of the apocolypse (the anti-Christ and what not) I suggest "Good Omens" by Neil Gaimen and Terry Pritchard. Fun read and very British.

Also, this reply is coming to you from Germany. Talk about Dystopian...

Did some recon - 'Planet of the Apes' was, indeed, a novel. It was also originally published in French. I'm not sure I even know anybody who read the 'Apes' book, as opposed to just seeing the movie, so I don't really regret it's omission on the list. The one book I really should've mentioned, but forgot to, is 'Watership Down' by Adams.

Impressed that you pulled Canticle for Liebowitz out. Good list, haven't read the Road yet. Wasn't Planet of the Apes a book, or just a short story.

An excerpt from the Bobby Bonilla WSJ Article:

'"But it's awesome," he said. "You pull something off like that, and later on you don't have to worry about [stuff]."'

They couldn't have made the expletive any more obvious. Hilarious.

I also just want to go on record that your noble representation of the Mets 2012 season is more chivalrous than I can be about the team I am forced to watch play the Rockies year after year after year.

The above is in the running for my favorite comment since I started this website. Given the way the GOP primaries have been going, don't be surprised if a little more Hugo 2012 talk pops up on the site between now and November.

Be warned, America. I thought dollar coins could signify a step on the road towards becoming Europe. The situation is far more dire. We could become Canada.

Strippers with fanny packs? Ugh. Not sexy. What's next? Strippers who hit the stage and shake it to the theme from 'Teletubbies'?

I had an encounter with the dollar coin conundrum in Canada. There is apparently an uber famous strip joint called Club Super Sex (the name lies though). So the lesser dancers wear these little pouch belts that they collect tips in. Saying that it's unattractive is an understatement. It's like those tourists at Disney that wear fanny packs. The better dancers have a trough around the stage that people dumped cash in, which is also weird and takes away from the experience.

I have developed a favorable opinion of Mr. Hugo. In fact, among the field of likely republican candidates for president, if the election were held today I would be somewhat likely to vote for him. In the general election, however, there would be only a 44% chance that I'd vote for him over Obama. This could change if Obama can make some kind of innocuous statement that the media can help me to take out of context and blow out of all rational proportion to its true meaning and significance. Stay tuned, empty suit.
